Kei Putri's "BATIK" presents traditional Javanese batik through a modern lens.
In Walthamstow, we are featuring two female artists who share their love for their heritage with the viewers. Jozefína Fujašová, who previously exhibited in Brunswick, draws inspiration from her upbringing amidst the lush greenery of Central Europe. Having lived in both rural villages and bustling cities, she offers a unique perspective on the natural beauty of her homeland and the seamless blend of rural and urban lifestyles. In contrast, Kei Putri, an emerging Indonesian artist based in London, reimagines traditional Javanese batik techniques with a contemporary twist, incorporating bold colours and fluid, abstract forms. The subtlety of Jozefína’s art intriguingly complements the vibrant energy of Kei’s work, creating a harmonious dialogue between two distinct styles.
In South Woodford, we are exhibiting the work of Hugo Raýman, who uses satire to explore societal relationships and our connection with nature. Originating from the former Eastern Bloc, much of his commentary reflects his experiences in that region, adding a layer of personal insight to his graphic work. The other artist featured in South Woodford is Konstantinos Panagiotidis, an artist based in East London, draws deeply from his queer identity and his formative years on the island of Cyprus. His work is infused with a sense of longing, inspired by both his connection to the island and a desire to escape its patriarchal traditions. Panagiotidis’ work invites viewers to explore beyond the limits of his upbringing, touching on themes of self-discovery and liberation.
Jozefína Fujášová’s collection of cyanotype art rethinks our approach to nature and explores the concept of giving back.
